Threats To Our Ocean Fisheries Essays - Fisheries,
Dangers To Our Ocean Fisheries Dangers to Our Ocean Fisheries A great many people know about the issues of the blue whale, endeavors to spare imperiled ocean turtles, and the numerous grievous stories of dolphins biting the dust in fish nets. Numerous individuals don't understand the extraordinary threat that fish and numerous other fish face. There is a disturbing decrease in fish populaces, and this represents a hazardous danger to life in the sea. On the off chance that fish decay, so does the ocean, into and precarious condition. Preservation measures, and open help for them are gravely required. For a considerable length of time man has removed fish from the ocean, appearing to accept that there is an interminable gracefully, and that this flexibly can't be annihilated. We remove these fish from the ocean quicker than they can be supplanted. As per National Marine Fisheries administrations, 90 fish species found off the shores of the U. S. have been drained. A lot more are in peril off being murdered off. Fish also, shell fish that are at risk include: cod, flop, swordfish, bluefin fish, blue marlin, Atlantic lobster, red snapper, salmon and a few types of shark. These are only a couple and the list gets longer consistently. The central issue of the fish numbers being at an unsurpassed low, is over angling. However another ecological issue brought about by humankind. Present day, mechanically progressed angling armadas have the ability to push most fish populaces to the verge of termination. Current angling armadas have huge industrial facility steam trawlers that can without much of a stretch take in net heaps of up to 100 measurement huge amounts of fish. These vessels can work angling justification for a long time at once. Reverberation sounding has been helpful to angler by finding and deciding the species and size of fish reefs. Planes and helicopters are even used to recognize the surface fish. In light of these improved advances more fish can be collected, however around one-fourth of the worldwide catch, ( more than 20 million tons of fish and other marine creatures) are disposed of yearly by angler. A portion of these armadas discard more fish than they keep. This waste is an issue in pretty much every fishery. What goes around comes around
What goes around comes around One day a man saw an old lady, stranded on the side of the road, but even in the dim light of day, he could see she needed help. So he pulled up in front of her Mercedes and got out. His Pontiac was still sputtering when he approached her.Even with the smile on his face, she was worried. No one had stopped to help for the last hour or so. Was he going to hurt her? He didnât look safe; he looked poor and hungry. He could see that she was frightened, standing out there in the cold. He knew how she felt. It was those chills which only fear can put in you. He said, âIâm here to help you, maâam. Why donât you wait in the car where itâs warm? By the way, my name is Bryan Anderson.âWell, all she had was a flat tire, but for an old lady, that was bad enough. Bryan crawled under the car looking for a place to put the jack, skinning his knuckles a time or two. Soon he was able to change the tire. But he had to get dirty and his hands hurt. As he was tightening up the lug nuts, s he rolled down the window and began to talk to him. She told him that she was from St. Louis and was only just passing through. She couldnât thank him enough for coming to her aid.Bryan just smiled as he closed her trunk. The lady asked how much she owed him. Any amount would have been all right with her. She already imagined all the awful things that could have happened had he not stopped. Bryan never thought twice about being paid. This was not a job to him. This was helping someone in need, and God knows there were plenty, who had given him a hand in the past. He had lived his whole life that way, and it never occurred to him to act any other way.He told her that if she really wanted to pay him back, the next time she saw someone who needed help, she could give that person the assistance they needed, and Bryan added, âAnd think of me.âHe waited until she started her car and drove off. It had been a cold and depressing day, but he felt good as he headed for home, disappearin g into the twilight.A few miles down the road the lady saw a small cafe. She went in to grab a bite to eat, and take the chill off before she made the last leg of her trip home. It was a dingy looking restaurant. Outside were two old gas pumps. The whole scene was unfamiliar to her. The waitress came over and brought a clean towel to wipe her wet hair. She had a sweet smile, one that even being on her feet for the whole day couldnât erase. The lady noticed the waitress was nearly eight months pregnant, but she never let the strain and aches change her attitude. The old lady wondered how someone who had so little could be so giving to a stranger. Then she remembered Bryan. After the lady finished her meal, she paid with a hundred dollar bill. The waitress quickly went to get change for her hundred dollar bill, but the old lady had slipped right out the door. She was gone by the time the waitress came back. The waitress wondered where the lady could be. Then she noticed something wri tten on the napkin. There were tears in her eyes when she read what the lady wrote: âYou donât owe me anything. I have been there too. Somebody once helped me out, the way Iâm helping you. If you really want to pay me back, here is what you do, do not let this chain of love end with you.â Under the napkin were four more $100 bills.Well, there were tables to clear, sugar bowls to fill, and people to serve, but the waitress made it through another day. That night when she got home from work and climbed into bed, she was thinking about the money and what the lady had written. How could the lady have known how much she and her husband needed it? With the baby due next month, it was going to be hard She knew how worried her husband was, and as he lay sleeping next to her, she gave him a soft kiss and whispered soft and low, âEverythingâs going to be all right. I love you, Bryan Anderson.âThere is an old saying âWhat goes around comes around.Author: Unknown

George Orwell ââ¬â 1984 Response Paper In George Orwellââ¬â¢s 1984 it can be seem that it does not matter how hard a government tries to formulate strict laws and rules and maintain them, there will always be one or two person who is brave enough to break them. There are two main characters that fit this definition. Winston Smith and his lover Julia. We will write a custom essay sample on George Orwell 1984 Essay or any similar topic only for you Order Now However their rebels do not have the similar purpose. Winston has opposite thoughts against the totalitarian control and enforced repression that are characteristic of the Party. This kind of ideas motivates him to rebel. On the other hand Juliaââ¬â¢s rebellion against the party has more personal concerns, in contrast to Winstonââ¬â¢s ideological motivation. Winston is thirty-nine years old so that he knows the time before the Party took over control. He remembers how he lost his mother and sister and what kind of staff happened during the war. His rebellious nature basically depends on his past. At his job he changes the history as it is ordered. However he keeps a diary which he writes about the true history and his personal feelings about the order. His rebel against the Party started after the note he received from Julia. In the note Julia wrote ââ¬Å"I love youâ⬠to him. Afterwards they started to see each other which was restricted by the government because he was still married. He was interested in old staff this is how he found the room which he spent time with Julia. He always had questions about existing of rebellion and the big brother. Basically he did not have the love for his government inside him. Because he was willing to become free. Freedom in his definition was simple as saying ââ¬Å"two plus two is equal to fourâ⬠. But what he was doing by keeping this diary and have an idea about freedom was thought crime and he had to keep low profile. After he met with Oââ¬â¢Brien and received the book ââ¬Å"The Theory and Practice of Oligarchical Collectivismâ⬠which is written by Emanuel Goldstein from Oââ¬â¢Brien his started to believe that the rebellion is really exists. He read the book with Julia and tried make her believe what he believes. However Julia was not that interested in the book. She looked like interested because of her love for Winston. Winston also had feeling for Julia but the was even more interesting than his love for Julia. Julia was born and grew up in the era of the Party. She does not know what was there before it. She is not rebellious because of the order her rebellious nature is caused by her adolescent desire to cause trouble for authority. She likes to act against the Party and yet gets an excitement from not to caught. She believes that although the precautions which the Party has these are not enough to stop her, since she is very careful and quick on hiding her actions. She thinks that because of her physical appearance her role as a pretty woman with dark hair is to not worry about the outcomes of her life style. She does anything she wishes if it is possible because that makes her feel like doing the right and good thing. The main example of Julia acting against the Party rules is her affair with Winston. While Julia started having an affair with Winston, she could manage to maintain this relationship for a couple of months and they did not get caught within this period. They have succeeded not to get caught because they used some simple yet useful ways. At their first meeting they were in the woods where nobody can see them. Afterwards they started to see each other at the rom which Winston rented. The room was safe for them to meet because there was no telescreens and microphones. The other way which keeps them safe was the routes they used while going to the room. They always used different routes and never get in or out from the room at the same time. These ways make Julia think like she has a freedom and the idea that she can do whatever she wants to. The government of 1984 has almost perfect control over the illegal actions of its citizens. Reaching that kind of accomplishment against the party encouraged her. Eighty-five percent of the population of Oceania was proletarian and Juliaââ¬â¢s actions might awaken them against the government. In conclusion both of Juliaââ¬â¢s and Winstonââ¬â¢s rebel was failure. The room which Winston rented has telescreen and microphone. Their entire act against the government was seen by the authorities. At their final meeting at the room they get caught by the thought police. During the time when Winston was being kept as a prisoner at the Ministry of Love he found out that Oââ¬â¢Brien was working for the government. They have torched Winston for months to erase his memories about the rebellion. Afterwards they had accomplished their goal and changed Winstonââ¬â¢s attitude against the government. However his love against Julia was not that easy to erase. At the last part of the torches they had finally succeeded to break his love. At this event Oââ¬â¢Brien put a mast on Winstonââ¬â¢s face which has rats in it and Winston could not fight against them anymore. He bagged for them to give Julia to the rats not him. However at this part I remembered the part when Julia told Winston that they can torcher him and make him say anything but they cannot change his ideas. Deep down he still has those rebellious thoughts but it does not seem like he can speak about his rebellious thoughts at loud anymore. How to cite George Orwell 1984 Essay, Essays

A lot of them are just like real life situations that happen every day between people. One of my favorite movies is Love and Basketball. His playing ability also starts to go downhill as hers reaches a peak. After time goes by they remain apart from each other and keep playing ball for professional teams. Quincy gets hurt on the court and suddenly canââ¬â¢t play anymore. While he is out from basketball he gets engaged while Monica keeps playing basketball. Eventually Monica tells him her feelings for him and how she is still in love with him. At the end of the movie they end up playing a game of one-on-one for his heart. She loses but then he surprises her by saying he wants a rematch. They end up getting married and having a daughter together. The story wasnââ¬â¢t as easy as it sounds though. In the beginning of the story Quincy and Monicaââ¬â¢s relationship was very open and good with each other. They would talk about things with each other and the relationship they had was very intimate. When one of them needed to alk about something the other would have no problem listening and hearing what the other had to say. Once Quincy started having problems with his dad is when things really went downhill for him and Monica. Quincy needed Monica to be the person for him to talk about it to, but she was too worried about her curfew. To me this would be an example of reward power. This is based on another personââ¬â¢s ability to satis fy your needs. In this case Monica couldnââ¬â¢t satisfy Quincyââ¬â¢s need for a companion when he needed it so this caused him to be angry at her and pull away. She didnââ¬â¢t seem to be understanding about his situation when he needed her to be. She was too worried about her curfew for basketball so she wouldnââ¬â¢t get in trouble with the coach. For them this was the biggest turning point in their relationship. Turning points are events or interactions that are associated with positive or negative changes in relationships. Their communication with one another became less and less. Relational de-escalation, the movement that occurs when a relationship decreases in intimacy, also happened. Quincy and Monica went to a party and saw each other there. Quincy was all over this other girl that was at the same party. Monica saw him talking to her and instantly got angry about it, so she walked up to him and started talking to him about it. She asked him if he wanted to go back to his place and talk about the situation with his dad. Quincy was obviously still angry at her so he responded by asking her if she had curfew. Monica told him she didnââ¬â¢t that night so she could talk, but Quincy just shook his head and told her not to worry about it. He told her he was tired and was just going to go to bed. This was when Monica realized that he was seriously angry with her. A couple days went by and she thought the situation had blown over and everything would be okay, but it wasnââ¬â¢t. Quincy ended up breaking it off with her one night as they were talking. One mistake in a relationship can cause it to end, and this is what this movie has taught me. In this movie I have learned a lot about interpersonal relationships. If I am understanding and am there when the other person needs me to be, things will go a lot more smoothly. I like to put myself in the other personââ¬â¢s shoes and look at it in a different perspective. I would want the other person to be there for me when I need them to be and Iââ¬â¢d want to be listened to. Open relationships are what makes or breaks you. In this part of the movie it broke their relationship, but all that matters is that they did end up together and happy. They needed to realize what one another needed from the other and grow up and mature a little more in order to make the relationship work. In the end though, they realized they truly loved each other and decided to make it work after they saw their mistakes. This was a great movie to watch and learn from.

The Pygmy Chain Sword Plants Essay Example
The Pygmy Chain Sword Plants Essay Example The Pygmy Chain Sword Plants Paper The Pygmy Chain Sword Plants Paper Understanding the process of photosynthesis is also vital in other areas, such as medicine, agriculture, energy production, and even electronics. In medicine, since light has extremely high energy content, sometimes it can cause damage to living organisms such as skin cancer and skin aging. To combat the high-energy content, plants developed photoprotective mechanisms to limit the amount of harm, which is caused from exposure to the light. By learning about the causes of tissue damage cause by light exposure and the way photoprotective mechanisms operate, we can develop our understanding of this process and use it to benefit the human race. An example of how photosynthesis has been applied in the medical field is in the treatment of tumors, where substances related to chlorophyll are injected into cancerous tumor tissue and exposed to light. The illumination of these tumors causes photochemical damage to take place, which can kill the tumor and leave surrounding tissue unharmed, as the protective agents converted the excess absorbed light into heat due to the basic principles of photosynthesis. Overall, photosynthesis is relatively inefficient, as only one to two percent of solar energy is used to form photosynthetic products. From that one to two percent, many plants undergo a process called photorespiration that causes them to waste much of the photosynthetic energy absorbed. By studying photosynthesis in detail and understanding processes like photorespiration, we can learn to control these processes so we can increase the productivity and efficiency of plants. Research along these lines is critical, as recent studies show that agricultural production is leveling off at a time when demand for food and other agricultural products is increasing rapidly. (Gust) Research into photosynthesis could lead to the production of more efficient crop strains or the development of more efficient, selective, and environmentally friendly herbicides that take effect by preventing steps of photosynthesis from occurring. Developing our understanding of photosynthesis can help to deal with issues of global importance, the decreasing amounts of fossil fuels and coal, which are vital to our daily life, especially in developing countries such as China where most of the power plants rely on coal. By learning how to control and increase the efficiency of photosynthesis, we can increase the production of fuels derived from agriculture such as ethanol. A new experimental process carried out by scientists today involve making ethanol from trees, grasses, and crop wastes by breaking down the cellulose in woody fibers to form cellulosic ethanol. This is much more efficient as trees and grasses do not need to be replanted every year like grains. (Ethanol made from, 2006) By increasing our understanding of photosynthesis, we can cut down on our dependence on fossil fuels, and on the production of greenhouse gases, by increasing the production of ethanol as an alternate source of fuel. Photosynthesis can even help in the development of technology, as engineers strive to make transistors and circuit components smaller in order to make computers faster and more compact, similar to how thylakoid membranes are packed inside chlorophyll molecules. Learning how plants control the movement of light energy to the different reaction centers and convert the light energy into chemical energy, can allow for the development of molecular-scale computers The reason why I chose this research question is that apart from my own personal interest in plants and my concern over the rising levels of pollution on earth, by understanding photosynthesis, the basis of life on earth, we can make medical and technological discoveries to improve our standards of living. Yet at the same time we can learn to control photosynthesis in order to increase the production of food and ethanol, and limit the amount of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere.

Learning the Mandarin Chinese Tone System
Learning the Mandarin Chinese Tone System The Mandarin language has a fundamental difference from Western languages: it is tonal. Tones are one of the biggest challenges for Mandarin learners, but their mastery is essential. Incorrect tones can make your spoken Mandarin difficult or impossible to understand, but using the correct tones will allow you to express yourself clearly. Mandarin tones are especially difficult for speakers of Western languages. English, for example, uses tones for inflection, but this is a very different usage from Mandarin. Rising tones in English often imply a question or sarcasm. Falling tones may be used for emphasis. Changing the tones of a Mandarin sentence, though, could completely change the meaning. Letââ¬â¢s take an example. Suppose you are reading a book and your brother (or sister or child) keeps on interrupting you. You are likely to become exasperated and say ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢m trying to read a book!â⬠In English, this would be said with an emphatic falling tone at the end. But if you use a falling tone in Mandarin, the meaning completely changes. WÃâ yo kn shÃ
« I want to read a book.WÃâ yo kÃŽn shà ¹ I want to cut trees! The second version of this sentence would have your listeners scratching their heads. So practice your tones! They are essential for speaking and understanding Mandarin.

Discuss the Impact of International trade or Inward FDI on economic Coursework
Discuss the Impact of International trade or Inward FDI on economic growth or development in an Emerging Economy - Coursework Example There are several definitions which are provided by different international organizations like IMF and The United Nations. The International Monetary Fundââ¬â¢s (IMF) definition says that FDI refers to an investment thatââ¬â¢s main objective is to obtain a ââ¬Ëlasting interestââ¬â¢ in an entity which operates in an economy that is different from the economy where the investor operates in (Moosa, 2002). A ââ¬Ëbenchmark definitionââ¬â¢ of FDI is provided by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). It says ââ¬Å"foreign direct investment reflects the objective of obtaining a lasting interest by a resident entity in one economy (direct investor) in an entity resident in an economy other than that of the investor (direct investment enterprise)â⬠(Organisation For Economic Co-Operation And Development, 1999). This paper discusses the role of FDI in an emerging economy like India. It aims to provide a clear picture about how FDI has played a n important role in the economic growth of the country. Furthermore, the paper also includes a brief overview of the Indian economy and the way in which it is performing over the past two decades. The Economy of India Over the past few years Indian economy is gradually turning into an open-market economy. Since early 1990 the country has experienced significant economic liberalization that includes industrial deregulation, reduction in control over foreign investment and trade and privatization of government owned enterprises. Since 1997, every year Indian economy has grown by almost 7% (Central Intelligence Agency, n.d.). The diverse economy of the country encompasses conventional farming, handicrafts, modern agriculture, multitude of services and different modern industries. Over half of the total work force is involved in agriculture whereas only one-third work force is associated with the service sector. However, services are the main source of economic development in the countr y. Almost 50% of the countryââ¬â¢s total output is contributed by the service industry. India is enriched with its large educated population that is capable of speaking good English. Capitalizing on this aspect India has become one of the largest exporters of IT (Central Intelligence Agency, n.d.). Due to its strong foundation, the Indian economy protected itself very well from the recent global economic crisis, though the growth rate was significantly affected for a certain period. The weak monsoon of 2009 and inefficient food distribution system have resulted in high food prices. Inflation has been one of the key problems for the Indian government over the past two years. The countryââ¬â¢s central bank (Reserve bank of India) has hiked the interest rate several times in order to control the inflation. In the fiscal year 2010-11, India experienced a deficit of 6.8% of its GDP and in the coming year the government aims to bring down this deficit to 5.5% of GDP (Central Intelli gence Agency, n.d.). Some of the long standing challenges for Indian economy are widespread poverty, lack of social and physical infrastructure, insufficient access to the basics like higher education and drinking water and limited opportunities regarding non-agricultural employment. In 2010 Indiaââ¬â¢s GDP was $4.046 trillion (in terms of purchasing power parity) and this is increased from the

Friendship Essay: What Makes A Good Friend? -- Friendship Essay, Person
A friend is someone difficult to find. A friend is someone you can always count on when times are tough. The dictionary's definition of a good friend is a person attached to another by feelings of affection or personal regard. A good friend is there when you are struggling. For example, when a boy breaks your heart a good friend walks you through it and offers a shoulder to cry on. According to Bree Neff, a good friend is someone who is trustworthy, doesn't talk behind your back, listens to your problems, gives good advice and tries to lend humor along with his or her support. There are also bad friends, those who pretend to care and then turn around gossiping and starting drama. Good and bad friends are all around you, involved in your everyday life. To find good friends you should look for such traits as being kind, trustworthy, loyal and dependable. A good friend must be kind because being kind is when they look out for you no matter what! If they hear girls talking about you, they are the friends that stop them. Friends look out for you even when you are arguing. A friend understands that you may not always get along but you should always try and be there for them and look out for them. Although this can be difficult at times, it proves how kind and loving you are. Another part of being kind is listening to one and another. Sometimes we don't care about what are friends have to say, but listening is really important. Listening shows that you value their friendship. Some friends only talk about themselves and never listen to your problems; that is not a good friend. Listening to each other helps you learn about the person as it shows character and tells that person you can count on them. In addition, being a ... ...in trouble. They are someone that will be there when you just need someone to talk. You can rely on them to show you they care, and be there till the end. A good friend may not have all these traits. If someone is a gossip, you shouldn't get too close with him or her. If they are known for betrayal and being dishonest you should think about it and probably take one step away from them. According to the site ââ¬Å"Being Friends,â⬠friends should listen to each other, not put each other down to hurt one another, understand each others feelings, disagree without hurting each other, and be dependable and trustworthy. When finding friends you should look out for the good and the bad. See which traits are most important to you and make sure your friends have more good than bad traits. This will create compatible friends for you who hopefully remain with you for a lifetime!

Anthropology Book Report
This is a book review of, With No Direction Home: Homeless Youth on the Road and in the Streets written by Marni Finkelstein. The writer gives a voice to the homeless youth and highlights on their everyday lives, the condition in which they live and the experience they go though in the streets.Furthermore, the writer through her interviews obtained first hand experience and which she writes with logical honesty, the study which she took its ethnographic methodology for the reason that she combined qualitative interviews and direct observation. The writer defines who the streets kids are hence the reader get to know how they come to be streets kids. She describes the different reasons why most of them leave their homes to end up being street youths. Their life in the streets is well tackled in the book on how they socialize in the streets and form peer networks.à She explains on how peer groups formed makes them use and abuse substances. Their subsistence in the streets and their da ily lives as it is explained in the book gives an insight to the readers to understand them even more.Finkelstein discusses how the youths in the streets are prone to victimization by the society; they are ill treated, oppressed and discriminated the youths reiterate by being violent for them to survive the hostile environment in which they live. The book concludes with recommendations which would be adopted to ensure that the ever increasing numbers of youths in the streets would be reduced and eventually make them leave the streets. This study falls under social anthropology as the study is done with evidence of how the streets youths, who form a group of the society currently behave in social a group. Social anthropology investigation is an intensive field studies which include participant observation methods like the ones used in this book. The study done was how social organization of the youths in the street socializes among them selves and the public. Social anthropology explor es indistinctness and contradictions of social life, sociality patterns, conflicts and violence which forms social behavior of a group of the society. It also address diversity of positions and perspective found in a social group. This is what is addressed in Finkelstein book when discussing how the street youths socialize and form peer networks which abuse substance, being victimized and violent. The research method used is ethnographic methodology, by combining direct observation and qualitative interviews to provide descriptive study of a group of human society. The study done is about street youths which are a group of human society. The research has focused on sociology through close field observations of social cultural incidents. The research is focusing on a social group and is able to study their activities and how they affect them and the society at large. It is done by interviewing informants several times using information from previous informers to ensure that the informa tion obtained is accurate and dependable to support the writers arguments. The research is done by first selection of a culture and identifications of variables which are used to obtain information from informants and gather data inform of observation and interview recording. To be precise the research method used is Micro-ethnography because itââ¬â¢s the study of narrowly-defined cultural group which in this case itââ¬â¢s the youths in the streets. When the research was being done there was resistance by the street youths to willingly disseminate information which they were being interviewed. The street youths are victimized by the society and they felt that they are not worth hence they have a feeling that they are inferior and the research being done will not be of any use to them.Trustworthy of the information obtained is one of the challenges encountered in qualitative research. For the writer to obtain a reliable source of information, interviews are done to several of the street children with the same question and compare their responses to ensure that the facts are accurate.Obtaining a sample on which the research was to be done was a challenging, as none or very few who were willing to be interviewed. On such a social study one is not supposed to influence the informers either by giving them incentives to woo them to provide information because it will be biased and wonââ¬â¢t reflect the actual scenarios under study. The interviewees are supposed to be voluntary which in this study volunteering was a problem. The youths in the streets are a subculture because they give a diversity of culture in the society. The group way of life and social phenomena is distinguishable with the normal cultural practices of a family setup where the youths are expected since they are kids to be brought up in a family setup where they are provided for until they are independent. Their social practices and ethics are far much below the set standards of a youth being brought up in their homes where the environment is conducive. Their practice is referred to as social fall out from the cultural setup acceptable by the society. The group is made up of diversified age ranges which include youth who are hard-core, refuges and immigrants, runways, squatters, young single mothers and those who are homeless because the entire family is homeless. The group lacks shelter and has difficult to obtain adequate food and they are at risk of nutritional and health problems.Even after being health wise challenged they donââ¬â¢t have access to medication this result to ailment which some times is life threatening hence they experience high mortality rate. The difficulties which they go through coupled with the drugs which they take makes them to be depressed and have mental disorders which makes them committee suicide and die due to drug overdose which have been registered as the leading cause of deaths among the street childrenââ¬â¢s.I have realized that s treet homeless youths they are a nomadic group of youths who ends up in the streets. After reading the book I come to realize that they are in the street and who they are due to circumstances which are beyond their control. Such as, the whole family being homeless or they are refuges or even single mothers. I understand that they abuse substances and are drug peddlers because of peer pressure. They are also discriminated by the society hence they are not employed to earn money this result them to be thugs, sex workers, drug dealers and participate in scams to earn so as they can sustain their livelihood. Most of them do not travel very far from their homes to the nearby cities. Travelling of the kids is not an easy task because they have little or no money so their main mode of transport is hitchhiking and train jumping which both of them are very dangerous. Most of them leave their households where there is an abusive environment or they are simply kicked out from their homes. Finkel stein stated in her book that most of them remain on the streets for a short period then they seek refuge in shelters and their underlying motives are substance abuse and sense of aimlessness.According to Finkelstein, most of the abused substances in New York is beer and heroin most of them had experimented the drug before they got out of their homes but they become serious addict after they have prolonged their inhabitance in the streets. The excuse they give is that they abuse them because they want to forget their trouble such as helplessness and poverty. This group of homeless youths exists in the society because they arose from disadvantaged families such as disrupted and dysfunctional families. Such families experience divorce, poverty, parental drug abuse, domestic violence and poverty. There is also high rate of Sexual, emotional, and physical abuse which result the children to run away from such environment. There are also a substantial number of the streets youth who run aw ay from children protection services such as childrenââ¬â¢s homes or even run away to hind from the existing criminal justice systems. After being in the streets for long this group of youths develop self-reliant skills and abilities through networks of mutual supports and spirituality. Furthermore, most of them adapt to the hard environments they are exposed to enabling them to survive for years in dangerous circumstances.I was surprised to know that the street youths are not there by choice. I thought they were in the street as there choice of life. I came to realize that they have been pushed to be at the streets by hardships / factors which they have no control on. These unfortunate youths are really discriminated by the society who does not respect them hence they do not consider them for any form of employment. I was surprised on know this discrimination makes them revolt by being drug dealers, thugs and sex workers as they strive to survive.I thought that they are young you ths who are in street as a choice they have made willingly as a way of life and they are thugs or prostitutes. I thought that they choose to be in the streets so as to pursue their interest of being drug users and dealers which they could only do it more conveniently at the streets. Most of the homeless in the streets of New York are the minor who probably have suffered a lot of hardship which got them to the streets. These minors are not given money when they borrow because itââ¬â¢s discouraged; donations are only given out to worthy charities. This book has acted as a voice to the homeless youths by highlighting who they are, how they came to be whom they are and how they exist and coexist. It has formed a source of reliable information for the readers who would need to know about the street homeless youths.Self-reliance which grew with time by the youths being in the streets for long makes it difficult to eliminate or reduce them. Once they have been in the streets for long the form social groups and networks which enable them to have some sort of adaptation and building of skills which makes them survive for years in the hostile environment which they are exposed to.ReferencesFinkelstein, M. The Blues, By Bessie Smith And Billie Holliday - 1744 Words
Music is such a beautiful creation, the way the melody, rhythm, tempo, all mix together to become a masterpiece. One specific genre of music, the blues, was heavily popular in the early 20th century. The blues is a tradition-oriented music style from the rural Southern African-American origin (ââ¬Å"Jazz in Americaâ⬠, n.d. ). It usually had secular content, which is disparate from how it was when it first began. Blues music originated in plantations, where slaves sung, using it as a mental escape method from their oppression. Even though it started off in a simple way, it eventually turned into a serious entertainment. Bessie Smith and Billie Holliday, two well-known blues female singers, became hit sensations. Blues started in the South, long ago, when slavery was still socially accepted. Slaves were severely oppressed because they were legally bound to their masters. One way they found emotional freedom was to sing songs, which were called ââ¬Å"slave songs.â⬠ââ¬Å"It Makes a Long Time Man Feel Badâ⬠, ââ¬Å"Hammer, Ringâ⬠, ââ¬Å"Cornfield Hollerâ⬠, were just a few of the popular slave songs (ââ¬Å"Slavery and the Making of Americaâ⬠, 2004). Slave songs were in various forms such as field hollers, work songs, spirituals, and country string ballads (ââ¬Å"The Blues- A Historyâ⬠, 2003). As time passed, these types of songs were starting to become known as the blues. After slavery ended in 1865, blues was not only still present, but became more evident. My Life After High School - 1896 Words
ââ¬Å"What do you want to do with your life after high schoolâ⬠is a frequent question that I am asked from family, faculty, and friends. Deciding what I want to do after high school was surprisingly quite easy for me, considering the fact that I have known what I wanted to do since freshman year. To find out more information about becoming an anesthesiologist, I conducted a research project on everything I will need to complete to get on the right track to seizing a job in this exciting medical field. The first phase of research included learning more about what being an anesthesiologist is, and the different things that came along with the job. I learned more about what their tasks are, what the salary of an anesthesiologist is, and miscellaneous things such as work hours and job placement. The next phase involved conducting an interview or job shadow with someone who has a career in the field. I conducted an interview with Dr.Barrett at Clarion Hospital. This interview provi ded me with insight on what I need to do to successfully obtain a career as an anesthesiologist. The last research phase was education. I researched three different undergraduate universities and one medical school which were the University of Pittsburgh, Duquesne University, Grove City College, and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Absurdist Literature for Metamorphosis- myassignmenthelp.com
Question: Discuss about theAbsurdist Literature for Vegetarian and Metamorphosis. Answer: The notion of absurd was popularized by writers like Albert Camus, Franz Kafka and Samuel Beckett. Absurd Theater produced plays which were inherently deprived of religious sentiments portraying man as cut off or alienated from his roots, living aimlessly. Thesis Statement: the above mentioned works fall under absurd literature as they show meaninglessness, lack of purpose and intense human suffering. The absurdist plays like Happy Days by Samuel Beckett which gives expression to themes like despair, existentialism and pain of human existence. Happy Days is critically proclaimed as a play mocking happiness, and the play slowly progresses towards silence and nothingness depicting suffocation and haunting stillness. The characters suffer a pathetic existence where Winne is buried till her waist and Willie hiding behind Winnie. The absence of time is another instance of Happy Days being an absurd drama. One of the important elements in absurdist plays is the absence of time and space which Beckett describes. In The Stranger by Camus, he portrays universe where there is no final victory of goodness, it is an alien world indifferent to human emotions. Camus theory of absurd was that only at the brink of death does one analyze the true significance of life as it is with Mersault. The story revolves around indifference right from the beginning of the story where the death of Mersaults mother creates no emotion inside him. The idea of calm acceptance by him is another instance of absurdism of human life. Mersaults apathetic relationship with his mother is the first instance of Camus absurdism portrayed. The lack of emotion is one of the features of absurdist plays. In The Metamorphoses, absurdity of human existence is expressed in a beautiful manner where one morning Gregor, wakes up to find out that he has been turned into a giant bug. His suffering began as he set for an unrealistic and dehumanizing life, neglected and unbothered by his family. His freedom gets restricted due to his new identity where he loses his sense of self-identification. He broods over his existence making the readers realize the absurdity of the situation. In The Vegetarian is another absurdist play because of the painful existence of Yeong-hye who becomes a victim of anorexia and schizophrenia yet death does not come easily to her. The slow degeneration o human body and its insignificance is one of the themes prevalent in Becketts plays showing the absurdity of the world around. Etiquette and values finally destroys them again setting the theme of nothingness and unimportance of human lives. Humanity is described as murderous and therefore the entire act of living becomes meaningless. Therefore it can be concluded that the above plays depicted absurdities of human life and existence. The plays give hint to a lack of spirituality and the insignificance of human suffering in the face of universe. The bulk of work like Happy Days, The Stranger, The Vegetarian and The Metamorphosis portrayed the protagonists as a senseless and absurd creature suffering from the sense of dread and nothingness.

Vanity Fair, Bleak House And Felix Holt Essays -
Vanity Fair, Bleak House And Felix Holt Queen Victoria and her consort, Prince Albert, established the idea of a sound family life as a prime value of the mid-century years. In Vanity Fair, Bleak House, and Felix Holt we see a very different idea in family rapport. In Vanity Fair, the Sedley family gives us a good example of a family that did not see sound family life as a prime value. Though both Amelia and Jos live good lives, Amelia going to a respectable girls academy, Miss Pinkertons, and Jos living abroad in India, neither of them is exceptional, though, an outsider might have seen them so. Amelia, whom we see being well liked by many and a seemingly lovely girl, is not as perfect as she seems. A major fault that Amelia has is her ideas about love. Though we see this more as the novel progresses, we see her relationship with George and see it more as an infatuation then a genuine love. She is in love with the appearance of George and the idea of George more than the person that he actually is. In chapter 3 we see Jos cruelly tricking Becky into eating spicy food which she has never tasted before. As for Mr. Sedley, he is not a loving father. He is very mean to Jos, calling him names and making fun of him at any given opportunity. Mr. Sedl ey is thoughtless, nasty and cruel. To an outsider like Becky, ones initial reaction to the Sedleys is that they are an ideal family, but once one is submerged into their world he/she begins to see the truth behind their fa?ade. Becky also idealizes them initially because she is an orphan. She comes from a family less fortunate than the Sedleys and therefore sees them as a perfect. Now that she is alone she must work to take care of herself. She is very unhappy about this because she likes being with the Sedleys and also because she has set her sights on Jos as a potential mate. In Bleak House the first encounter we have with a family or non-family is with Sir Leicester and Lady Dedlock. Not only are they are thirty years different in age but they have no children. We can infer that this bothers Lady Dedlock because of her reaction to the neighboring family who seem loving and caring. We become acquainted with Esther was raised by her godmother who treated her horribly. She constantly reminded Esther that she was her mothers ruin because of the circumstances under which she was born. Esther grew up without love and feeling worthless. After her godmothers death she becomes a ward of the crown and is taken care of by Mr. Jarndyce. (There are also other ward of the crown, Rich and Ada, whom Mr. Jarndyce takes care of.) The Jellyby family is quite dysfunctional. Mrs. Jellyby is only interested in her charity work. She ignores her children and her home leaving them in squalor. The house and the children are filthy. The only child who she pays attention to is Caddy, whom she uses as her secretary. Mrs. Pardiggle also does charity work, missionary work to be exact. Her five sons dislike her and are ferocious with discontent because she forces them to do that work as well and to contribute money to it. One more example of a non-family situation is the Neckett family. After Mr. Neckett dies, Charlotte, better known as Charlie, must take care of her siblings. Though they adore her this is far from what we would see as the ideal family situation. In Felix Holt the first family we encounter is the Transome family. They are quite dysfunction from the very beginning. We are told that Mr. and Mrs. Transome have not seen their son in many years nor have they ever met their grandson, this alone makes us begin to wonder what kind of familial ties they have. After Harold arrives he is nothing but mean and disrespectful to his mother and father. He arrives without his son, he bosses his mother around rearranging everyones living quarters in the house to suit his own needs, and he makes fun of his

Nanook of the North essays
Nanook of the North essays In 1922, Robert Flaherty debuted his epic ethnographic film entitled Nanook of the North. At the time, nobody knew of the impact that it would have on the entire industry of filmmaking. One of the innovators of the ethnographic film, Flaherty took his camera into places that no one had ever imagined. His expedition into the Arctic brought forth a new style of filmmaking that is still used in many films today. The first thing that everybody must notice about Nanook of the North is the cinematography. At this point in the era of film the equipment was obviously quite primitive when compared to everything that we have today. This, however, did not hinder Flaherty in any way as his film still contains many of the most breath-taking images still available for viewing. For example, the opening sequence to the film contains an incredible deep-focus shot of the icebergs floating around in the sea, as the sun is high above the water. Everything in the shot seems to be in place and a type of peace is established before you are introduced to the films main character, Nanook. Later in the film the camera revisits similar shots using the barren landscape behind the action to further reveal the desolation of the Eskimo people. All you can see is snow and ice for miles and miles as the subjects engage in their activity. Civilization has not touched these people, and therefore the landscape is peaceful behind the action, even though the Eskimo people are constantly struggling with their natural environment. Flaherty was also able to pull off many other things than beautiful imagery with his camera work, though. As a matter of fact, the key to the success of Nanook of the North was his innovative camera techniques. In David Parkinsons History of Film, Parkinson states "shot with a participatory camera, the scenic footage and dramatic reconstructions of Nanook of the North captured the spirit of the Eskimo lifestyle thro...
